Although my tutorials are slanted to the United States, bookkeeping is still bookkeeping wherever you are located. We just have different currencies, the pound, yen, and so forth. Can individuals from other countries benefit from my tutorials ? Sure you can ! Just mentally substitute your currency symbol anywhere that I've used the US Dollar Sign ($). The only tutorial that will probably only benefit US individuals is my payroll tutorial. Dear Dave - (Oh Mighty, but Humble Tutor!). Please allow us to express our abundant thanks for your tutorials. Dear Dave, This is my first time logging on your Bean Counter's Accounting.It's very helpful. It's not hard for me to find an Accounting textbook in Chinese. The problem I faced was that I have to write emails regarding accouting in English to my supervisor. I was always afraid that the terms I used were not appropriate and my accounting English is not native, considering I did not major in Accounting. Hello Dave, I just wanted to send you a note of thanks. I have just started your beginner course in bookkeeping and it makes actual sense to me. I’m only at the very beginning but you teach it in a way that I can understand. I needed to take an accounting course, but the few that I looked at lost me in the beginning lessons. Your course seems to just speak to me without making me feel stupid for not understanding all the terminology and rules. I’m taking my time with it but I can tell anyone who asks me the definition of an asset, liability, owner’s equity (capital), revenue or expense and draw. I practice on my way home in the car. Dave, I've been an administrative person for a small CPA firm for 6 years. The other staff and partners have trained me here and there, so I have a VERY basic understanding of accounting concepts. I started doing a simple set of books for a dental practice and felt like I was just following blindly. Not really understanding the process, just sort of filling in the blanks. I can't believe how much you have cleared up by connecting the pieces for me. For example, no one ever told me that a debit doesn't always increase an accounts balance! I'm excited to get my hands on the books again next month so I can apply my new understanding of the process. I especially appreciated your sense of humor and teaching style. Sue Jenkins Good afternoon We are a small New Zealand company specializing in producing training materials and assessments for NZQA unit standards. We also train small business owners in the use of MYOB, which is a computer accounting package. However, we find that a large number of our clients have a very poor grasp of the concepts of accounting, and we are referring them to your website “So you want to learn Bookkeeping” so that they can learn the basics of bookkeeping prior to having us teach them to use MYOB. We now find that students in training centres who are learning MYOB also require bookkeeping basics, but not all of them have access to the Internet. We are wondering, therefore, if we could download the lessons in your program onto CD and give it to these students. Obviously we would not be selling the CD, and we would acknowledge that the program is your property – the CD label would indicate that you are the author of the program. We have searched the Web for bookkeeping/accounting resources for these students, and find that your website has a fresh, enthusiastic approach which certainly encourages learning and is the best of its kind that we have come across. I am teaching a Principles of Business course this year as a math course for those who have difficulty with high school math above Algebra II but need a math course to graduate. Hi, I was looking for some basic accounting training to share with new staff members who have some OJT but no formal accounting training. They don’t issue financial statements but they certainly affect the financials. They need to understand how their daily work affects the financials. I don’t want to send them to Principles of Accounting (too much) or Bookkeeping 101 (too little). Your “So, you want to learn Bookkeeping!” site offered both bookkeeping and the basics of financial reporting in a simple and easy to understand format. Hi, and thanks a billion for your site! I took degrees in policy analysis, economics, and planning. I worked managing millions of dollars of funds for many years. I made up my own accounting systems to account for the receipt and expenditure of government funds. I lost my job and am now going to work in ar/ap. Coming from the management side I know very little about the actual input! hahaha. Your site is a godsend. I will be working in an office doing actual bookkeeping! Actually, I am terrified. I assume that I will be inputting data via a canned software program, which makes me feel okay, kind of. But I've never really done anything but fund accounting. The accounting department took care of receiveables and payables. Well, I am reading your materials, and feel better now that I have a tutor.
