Who is this Course for ?
This "Crash Course" is geared to providing a quick path to learning the basics of accounting and bookkeeping for everyone. Oh by the way, you can teach an "ole" dog new tricks. They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Well, my goal is to make you dangerous.
Prior Knowledge Needed
None
What’s Covered ?
This course Bean Counter's Bookkeeping Recipe is composed of Dave and Betty's animated video explanations with a brief description of the topic. Although still beneficial, the days of learning reading text are fading out. I "cherry picked" some of my most recent and what I consider some of my best newer videos. This course also differs in that it uses a top down approach. We start with the big picture the complete recipe and then dive down to the individual ingredients that compose bookkeeping and ending with the completed recipe, the financial statements and reports.
The four phases of the Bookkeeping Recipe:
1. Preparation Phase = Gathering & Categorizing
Gathering receipts and source documents, downloading bank statements, and sorting transactions into categories (e.g., separating office supplies from travel expenses).
2. Execution Phase = Recording & Reconciling (The Cooking)
Entering transactions into your ledger, assigning them to the correct accounts, and matching bank statements to your entries (reconciliation) to ensure everything balances perfectly.
3. Conditioning Phase = Adjusting Entries & Accruals
Making adjusting journal entries, accounting for depreciation, and recording accrued expenses or accounts receivable that haven't cleared the bank yet.
4. Presentation Phase = Financial Reporting (The Plated Dish)
Generating the Profit & Loss Statement (Income Statement), Owner's Equity Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement and other reports for the business owners.
